How to choose a private server
24 May 2026 · MMOLove TeamPicking a server is half the fun and half the risk. A little homework saves a lot of wasted evenings. Here's what actually matters.
1. Version / era
Decide which version of the game you want first — a nostalgic classic plays very differently from a later expansion. This is the single biggest factor in how a server feels.
2. Rates
Rates are the XP, drop and currency multipliers. Low-rate servers reward the grind and a real economy; high-rate servers get you to endgame fast. Neither is better — it's about how you want to spend your time.
3. Population
A world is no fun empty, and group content needs people. Steady daily voters on a server's ranking are a good honesty signal that a community is genuinely active.
4. Pay-to-win
Check the donation model. Cosmetics-only is healthiest; heavy pay-to-win ruins economies and PvP fast.
5. The team
Active GMs, a lively Discord, and a track record of fair updates matter more than a flashy website.
MMOLove's hearts and streaks are built to surface exactly these signals. When you've found one worth loving, give it a heart.
